If Only we Knew

if only they knew

By Inioluwa Moses

If only we knew

That laughter cured more pain than tears

If only we knew

Tears were good for the soul

There’s a time to laugh and cry

Even when the wind hits strong in the face

And tears stream down

Leaving behind a trail and a ruined mascara

We still manage to squeeze out a dry laugh

When all we need at that moment is a sound of pain from the depths of our bosom

But we still go on and say it’s fine

What of when we need to laugh

But we cry saying its ok to be weak once in a while

But the only image we’re putting out

Is that of a spineless soul

At the wrong time

If only we knew how to mix our tears with sounds of laughter

If only we knew how to balance two strong emotions
