Heartbreak -The Playlist

Heartbreak
playlist

As requested and promised, I will be posting playlists from time to time. Here is one playlist for you.

As some of you may have the displeasure of knowing, breakups suck. Big time. And honestly, I don’t think there is a method or formula to getting over someone. Everyone deals with it differently. It is important to deal with what you are feeling; you know, work through the emotions. I personally think it is best to properly grieve the relationship.

Now there are five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and bargaining. When grieving, it is important to go through these stages and come out feeling better with a much more stable frame of mind. I have found music to be a huge help in such times (and you know, there are songs about everything!) So today, I will share with you my ‘Heartbreak Playlist’ according to the stages of grief (this playlist – Nova’s Heartbreak Playlist – will be available on Apple Music).

Before we dive in, a brief disclaimer: please do not let these songs become you. Use them to grieve and go through the stages to become better. If you need help, please talk to someone. You can always email me at novasnuggets@yahoo.com or dm on Instagram at @novasnuggets_

Denial

Out of Love by Alessia Cara – in this number, Alessia is wondering where it all went wrong. She is contemplating reaching out to him; she doesn’t even know when he stopped feeling the same way she still feels.

I Don’t Wanna Know by Mario Winans– this song is super sad because there is evidence that this lady is unfaithful and yet he is saying he doesn’t want to know. He even asks her to keep it on the low and it’s really killing him.

The Other Side by Ruelle – Ruelle flat out says she does not want to go on without him. She doesn’t even want to know what living without him will be like.

Just Give Me a Reason by P!nk & Nate Ruess – this duet is simply amazing as it shows how the couple is processing the problems they are having. They go on to say that they are ‘not broken just bent’ and ‘they can learn to love again’, it sounds more like they are trying to convince themselves not necessarily making an affirmative statement.

Anger

It Ain’t Me by Kygo Ft Selena Gomez – Here, Selena is telling her ex that she is leaving him for good. She is making it clear to him that she will no longer be there for him and she is telling him this in a rather angry way. Remember when you would fight with your friend in primary school and then you will take back something you gave them? Yeah, this is kinda like that.

So What by P!nk – in this song, P!nk is really just angry at everyone and anything. Although she says she is fine, she clearly isn’t. The whole chaos surrounding the breakup has put her on edge that she is snappy at everyone she comes across.

Bust The Windows by Jazmine Sullivan – I will be honest with you and say that I am one of those people that destroys anything that reminds me of my ex. I will delete photos and texts. Sometimes, it helps to break stuff but instead of destroying his car ladies, go to a demolition site and ask to help out for a bit. It’s not worth it destroying his stuff because as you can hear towards the end of this song, it doesn’t really help in the long run. Your heart is still broken.

Bargaining

Need You Now by Lady Antebellum – it is really hard to let go of a relationship. So most times, we try to revive it, you know, calling the person, texting. Trying to keep it alive or at least what is left of it. You know they say the opposite of love is not hatred, it’s indifference. So just to keep it alive, some people keep on holding on and fighting even though it hurts because they know that once they stop feeling anything, it is truly over.

Just A little Bit of Your Heart by Ariana Grande – this song is particularly sad because she knows he cheats but she is still convinced that ‘a little love is better than none’. I feel the need to make it clear that no one deserves to be treated this way. If someone loves you, they should love you fully. It really is all or nothing especially when a commitment is made.

Broken-Hearted Girl by Beyonce – here also, the man in question does things that hurt her but she still does not want to be without him. She doesn’t want the pain that comes with separation.

Nobody Like You by Little Mix – most times, people don’t want the change that comes with breakups because they have lost sight of who they are without that person. They have in fact, tied their self-value to that person. So they don’t know who they’ll be.

Depression

Someone you loved by Lewis Capaldi – he feels she is the only one who truly understood him. Basically, he thought he found his person but then she left him. He is hurting and wondering how to start again.

Undone by Hailey Reinhart – Hailey is not only mourning the loss of the relationship but what she has lost as a person. In fact, she feels empty. Do you know how people say that they lose a part of themselves? Yeah, it’s something like that.

What a Time by Julia Michaels ft Nial Horan – Julia and Nial talk about a relationship here that seemed to be great and now that it is over, they are wondering if all they professed to each other and claimed to be to each other was even true, to begin with.

Only You by Cheat Codes & Little Mix – it’s not clear if the girl made a hasty decision in breaking up with the guy in this song. What is clear, however, is the fact that she wants him back. She believes he is the only one who can fix her.

Acceptance

Landslide by Stevie Nicks – the first thing to be taken from this timeless number by Stevie Nicks is that you will grow and
evolve if you give it the chance to happen.

Trust My Lonely by Alessia Cara – Alessia now knows that guy wasn’t the best for her and she knows now that it’s better she remain single than put up with a toxic relationship.

Let It All Go by Birdy Ft Rhodes – this song right here highlights something we forget way too often – especially my ladies: we are stronger than we give ourselves credit for. As Birdy and Rhodes sing in this song, ‘if we are strong enough to let it in, we are strong enough to let it go’. It will take some time, perhaps a couple of tubs of ice cream, but you will get there eventually. You will even come up stronger.

Remember, this is a process. Do not let grief become a part of your life. You are much stronger than you think and you will heal and love again.

Love,

Nani.
