It seemed victory would never come but today it did. The ENDSARS battle is finally on its way to being over. Today the decisive blow was delivered.
Acting President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo today ordered the immediate “overhaul’ of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) division of the Nigerian Police.
His spokesman Laolu Akande issued a statement on Tuesday and said; “Following persistent complaints and reports on the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) that border on allegations of human rights violations, His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN, Acting-President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, has directed the Inspector General of Police to, with immediate effect, overhaul the management and activities of SARS,”

Prof. Osinabjo gave this directive following months of street and social media protests against the police unit which has, over the years, become associated with brutality and high cases of human rights abuses.
Segun Awosanya, who has been at the forefront of the #EndSARS Movement said the order to overhaul the police unit was a welcome development. He was very excited and commended team mates.
This was how it played out
The #EndSARS campaign began on social media to protest the activities of the police unit which have been accused of extortion, harassment, robbery, intimidation and extra-judicial killings that had been occurring unabated. Nigerian musician Falz made reference to SARS on his This is Nigeria and other celebrities too were harassed by this unit of the Nigerian police force including ironically the music producer and beat maker SARZ not to talk of numbers of innocent citizens that were tortured, extorted and sometimes even killed.
The victory and triumph of this #EndSars campaign has proved to Nigerians that activism is possible in this country and collectively we can unite against the social ills of our country.
