King Sunny Adeniyi Adegeye was born in Osogbo on 22nd September, 1946 to a Nigerian royal family from Ondo State. His father was a church organist, while his mother was a trader from Akure.
He is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in the West African musical style juju. One of the first msusicians to gain international success, he has been called one of the most influential musicians of all time

With a career of more than 40 years in the music industry, Sunny Ade has been nominated for a Grammy award twice. The first came for his album, Syncro Syncro (1983), in the ethnic/traditional folk recording category, and also 1988’s Odu, a collection of traditional Yoruba songs for which he was nominated for the second Grammy award thus making him the first African to be nominated twice for a Grammy.
His music was featured in the hollywood movies such as; 1983 film Breathless, starring Richard Gere and the 1986 comedy One More Saturday Night. He also acted in Robert Altman’s 1987 comedy O.C and Stiggs.
Sunny Adé has been a recipient of numerous awards during his career including thAFRIMA award which he received in November 2016 he and in December 2016 he was inducted into Hard ard of fame.
